5 Wedding Photography Tips

My wedding was one of the two most cherished and important events of my life. The other was the birth of my children. Both events warranted extra efforts to be as memorable as possible. In this article a few ideas will be presented that might help make your wedding more memorable, and less stressful.

Tip # 1 – Consider Employing A Pro

To cut costs, some couples trust the task of photographing their wedding to a friend. Unless your friend is a professional photographer, or very serious amateur, they may not be adequately prepared to capture your memories. You want these memories to show quality, to be spontaneous, and to last a lifetime. A friend might capture some of those elements, but will they capture them all?

Tip # 2 – Saving Costs

Consider having a professional do the main ceremony and photos just after that, and have a trusted friend (or maybe even several) handle the candid photography during the reception. If you do have several helping (some of your friends probably have dSLR cameras) you will find that these photos generate more memorable moments than one photographer could capture.

Tip # 3 – Research Laws

It’s important to research the laws in the location you’ve chosen for your wedding. This is especially true with destination weddings. There may have a curfew, or licenses that you need to buy for photography. Find out before your wedding ceremony when and where you are permitted to take photographs. Some venues won’t permit flash photography at all, while some officiants don’t want anyone taking photos while they are conducting the ceremony. Consider checking with a local wedding planner for assistance. Your photographer, if local, may also know.

Tip # 4 – Get Lots of Photos

Photographs that you won’t think of can make your wedding album special. If you’re not using a pro, make sure to have photos of all the small things, including the rings, bouquet, invitations, program, tables, cake, food, menu, and lots of candids of the guests arriving. You can find more ideas in wedding magazines, as their photography will be top notch.

Tip # 5 – Location, Location, Location

Consider backdrops beyond the norm. What about going to a museum to have your wedding photos taken? It’s amazing what some professionals dream up for their clients. Alternatively, brainstorm with friends and family that know the area well. Just be sure to contact your city’s government office to see if you’ll need a photography license for the location you choose. (remember tip # 3?)

Summary

Good wedding planning strikes a delicate balance between convenience, cost, and memorability. The ideal wedding is one that sticks in the minds of all the participants without requiring huge expenditures of effort and money. The tips in this article might help improve your wedding without costing a fortune. A memorable wedding is a worthy goal to strive for, and that goal need not be hard to achieve.
